Each operator’s file comes home with the same package: roster and topic outline, written test, the scored practical evaluation for each machine class, and a certificate and wallet card that names those classes. Grader evaluations record the task profile evaluated — a county gravel-road hand and a mine haul-road hand aren’t the same qualification. Truck evaluations record loaded-cycle work including the dump on grade; roller evaluations record type (smooth, padfoot, pneumatic, trench) and the edge and slope passes that matter.
The three-year refresh recommendation applies cluster-wide, with the standard triggers — incident or near-miss, observed unsafe operation, a new machine type or control pattern, or a long absence from the seat. Put the trigger list in the safety plan and the policy runs itself.

Do walk-behind and trench compactors count, or just ride-on rollers?
They count — and they’re often the higher-risk seats because they put the operator on foot next to the drum, sometimes below grade. The compaction course covers ride-on and walk-behind classes, evaluated separately.
Is there a separate certification for snow operations on a grader?
There’s no separate government credential, but the evaluation can be scoped to the task profile your operators actually work — snow and ice operations included. The file then says what was evaluated, which is what an auditor wants.
